In the late eighties Fender introduced a new line of 'Signature' instruments. One of the first guitars to be modeled in this series was Eric Clapton's famous 'Blackie' Stratocaster. Equipped with American Vintage parts and with the same feel and balance as Clapton's guitar, this instrument also houses some modern innovations and upgrades that the master wanted on his Signature model.

From 1985 Fender equipped the modern top-of-line guitars with the new Lace Sensor pickups that produced a cleaner and more defined signal. These pickups also found their way into the Clapton Strat. In addition, the guitar offered the TBX treble boost and a Midrange boost that could emphasize the midrange by 25dB. The early example from 2001 that we offer here has all these original features. Later that year Fender switched to the first generation Noiseless pickups.

The guitar offered here has been played with great pleasure for almost a quarter century, but has surprisingly few scars. The original case is ruggedly marked by use, but is still perfectly up to the task. The tremolo is mounted flat on the body and blocked for use by a piece of wood behind the sustain block, just as Clapton has it with his personal guitars. Electronics, hardware and pickups are completely original.
