The 2005 Gibson Custom Shop Historic Collection 1958 Les Paul Plain Top Reissue is a faithful reproduction of the 1958 Les Paul with plain top. The pickups were developed under the title of "Complete Revival of the Original Patent Applied For's" and reproduce the sound changes of the original PAFs over time with subtle changes in the sound of each type. Type 1 has a slightly reduced number of coil turns and has a delicate, clean, crisp sound, especially suited for the front position. Type 2 uses a DC resistance of around 8.0 ohms, which is typical of the original PAF, for a mellow tone with a firm attack.
