Designed in collaboration with Wata, the groundbreaking guitarist of Japan’s experimental heavyweights Boris, the Hizumitas is a crushing fuzz/distortion pedal inspired by her favorite vintage unit: the rare Elk BM Sustainar. EarthQuaker Devices meticulously analyzed Wata’s original pedal and recreated its distinct voice—delivering huge, saturated fuzz with gritty overtones, massive low-end, and an open, cutting presence. It’s a faithful tribute to a classic circuit with unique tonal qualities that let it sit confidently in a dense mix without sacrificing clarity or character.

Hizumitas offers a wide range of gain with an expressive Sustain control that responds dramatically to small adjustments. Its Tone knob shapes the distortion from thick, mid-heavy grind to searing highs, while the Volume control packs serious output—unity hits around 9–10 o’clock, and anything beyond unleashes its full sonic power.
