The Crazy Tube Circuits White Whale V2 combines real spring reverb and vintage-style tremolo in one compact, pedalboard-friendly unit. Inspired by the classic effects found in 1960s American amplifiers, this updated version improves on the original White Whale with expanded features, greater tone-shaping options, and fully independent control of each effect section.
Inside, you’ll find a genuine 3-spring reverb tank, just like the original version, but now powered by an improved analog circuit that mimics the response and saturation of vintage tube-driven reverb units. The dwell control has been upgraded to let you fine-tune the signal driving the springs, allowing for smooth, subtle ambiance or bright, splashy tones. You can shape the reverb’s character using a tone knob that affects only the wet signal and blend it into your dry tone with the mix control. To ensure your signal stays present in the mix, even with high reverb settings, there's a dedicated volume control with up to 20dB of boost.
A 3-way toggle switch allows you to choose between three reverb tank styles. The first emulates a short-to-medium 2-spring tank with thinner, milder qualities. The second mimics the lively sound of a medium-to-long 2-spring tank, typical of blackface amps. The third gives you the rich, dense response of a full-length 3-spring tank.
The tremolo section has also been expanded and now includes harmonic tremolo, alongside the original opto and tube bias styles. Harmonic tremolo splits the signal into high and low frequencies for a pulsing, swirling effect, while opto and tube bias styles modulate the overall volume. You can adjust the depth and speed, with the speed range extended beyond vintage limits to encourage more creative modulation. A separate volume control ensures your tone stays strong even with deep trem settings.
In White Whale V2, the reverb and tremolo are completely independent, and you can choose the effect order—run tremolo into reverb or reverb into tremolo, depending on the character you want. The pedal features two onboard footswitches with power-up state memory, so you can decide whether each effect should turn on or stay bypassed when powered up. This is especially useful for players using loop switchers or remote control systems.
The pedal also includes a remote switch input for external control of both effect sections via your preferred switcher or Crazy Tube’s optional dual footswitch. Additionally, you can control reverb mix with an expression pedal and tremolo speed using either an expression pedal or external tap tempo footswitch (sold separately).
Wrapped in a surf-style light green finish, the Crazy Tube Circuits White Whale V2 delivers the authentic feel of a vintage amp’s onboard effects, all in a self-contained, modern unit. If your amp doesn’t include reverb or tremolo, this might just be the perfect addition to your rig.
