Introduced in 1968 as a special-order model, the D-55 quickly gained popularity, leading Guild to add it to their regular production by 1974. Famously played by Tommy Smothers on The Smothers Brothers Show in the late 1960s, the D-55’s legacy has only grown over the years. The Guild Special Run (GSR) D-55 70th Anniversary Limited Edition is an incredibly collectible special edition of this iconic dreadnought, crafted with premium features and limited to just 70 pieces.

The GSR D-55 70th Anniversary Limited features Guild's renowned headstock, fully bound with mother-of-pearl Guild Peak and G-shield inlays over a Madagascar Rosewood face. The top boasts a detailed Abalone rosette and matching purfling, made from aged Adirondack Spruce and hand-scalloped Adirondack spruce braces.

The back and sides are crafted from exotic Madagascar Rosewood, showing off striking grain patterns across the body. The entire guitar is constructed with traditional hide glue techniques. A fully bound Ebony fingerboard is paired with a mahogany neck, featuring a beautiful Walnut center seam strip. Guild's signature Abalone/Pearl V-block inlays adorn the fingerboard, with a special commemorative “Winged G” inlay at the 12th fret.

Additional features include gold Gotoh open-gear tuners, Evo gold frets, and a dovetail neck joint. A hand-sprayed gloss nitrocellulose finish ensures minimal thickness for maximum resonance. Each instrument comes with a numbered and signed certificate of authenticity, a soundhole cut-out hand-signed by the Guild USA build team, and is shipped in a premium humidified hard-shell case. Limited to 70 pieces worldwide, this edition celebrates Guild’s 70th anniversary, 1953–2023.
