The Plumes is EarthQuaker Devices' refined take on the legendary lime-green overdrive circuit that has long been a staple for players seeking smooth, transparent tube-like saturation. While based on the familiar layout, the Plumes introduces a host of modern upgrades that push it into a class of its own. Replacing the standard JRC4558 chip with low-noise JFET op-amps, and increasing the input impedance to 10 megaohms, the Plumes delivers improved clarity, extended headroom, and a dramatically lower noise floor. Internally, the 9V power is converted to ±9V for enhanced dynamics and a more three-dimensional feel. The tone circuit has also been revoiced for deeper lows and more control over mids and highs.

One of the standout features is the 3-way clipping switch, offering distinct tonal flavors: Mode 1 delivers symmetrical LED clipping for crunchy, amp-like textures; Mode 2 bypasses clipping diodes entirely for a clean boost that shines with touch sensitivity; and Mode 3 provides asymmetrical silicon diode clipping with enhanced output and articulation. The Plumes features EarthQuaker’s Flexi-Switch technology, allowing for both momentary and latching operation, and maintains a low 25mA current draw.
