This is an SG Special made in Kalamazoo in 1969, so with all the right specs like Brazilian rosewood board, P-90's and the short Maestro Tremolo. Comes with original case and original bridge (in case) as a newer compensated bridge was installed for optimal tuning stability. The Tuners have been upgraded to Grovers and the post have been replaced by newer CTS pots. All in all a very clean and great looking and playing vintage SG! Pete would have LOVED to smash this one!

The Gibson 1969 SG Special with Short Maestro vibrato tailpiece is a noteworthy model in the storied history of Gibson guitars. The SG, which stands for "Solid Guitar," was introduced in 1961 as a redesign of the Les Paul model, featuring a thinner, more lightweight body with double cutaways for better upper-fret access. By 1969, the SG Special had become popular for its unique blend of affordability, playability, and tone. The Short Maestro tailpiece was a distinguishing feature that added subtle vibrato effects, appealing to guitarists looking for expressive playing capabilities without the complexity of a full tremolo system. This model is particularly admired for its P-90 single-coil pickups, which produce a raw, powerful sound that contrasts with the smoother, humbucker-driven tones of other Gibson models.

The 1969 SG Special's connection to legendary artists further cements its iconic status. Pete Townshend of The Who is perhaps the most famous user of the SG Special, especially known for his energetic performances and the occasional smashing of his instruments on stage. Townshend favored the SG Special for its robust build and the distinctive, aggressive sound produced by its P-90 pickups, which suited The Who's rock anthems perfectly. His use of the SG Special in performances such as the iconic "Live at Leeds" album helped define the sound of late 1960s and early 1970s rock music. The guitar’s presence in the hands of such a prominent figure has made it a symbol of the era’s rock ethos and has contributed to its lasting legacy in the music world.
