Originally introduced in 1968 as a special-order flagship model, the D-55 garnered such acclaim that Guild incorporated it into their regular production line by 1974. Renowned for its appearances on the Smothers Brothers Show, notably played by Tommy Smothers in the late 1960s, the D-55's popularity and endurance have only grown over the years. The 2017 reintroduction of the Guild D-55 marks one of the most eagerly awaited returns of a Guild acoustic guitar to date, promising enhancements that surpass its predecessors.

Staying true to the premium appointments of its 1968 ancestor, the D-55 boasts an AAA Sitka spruce top, solid Indian rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and a nitrocellulose finish. Internal improvements include scalloped Adirondack bracing and an upgraded dovetail neck joint, meticulously fitted by hand, rendering this generation of D-55 guitars the lightest, loudest, and most sonorous yet.

The D-55 proudly showcases Guild's iconic headstock, fully bound and adorned with the Guild "Peak and Shield" inlay atop a figured ebony overlay. The matching ebony fingerboard is also fully bound, embellished with Guild's renowned abalone/pearl "V-Blocks" and multi-line "railroad track" purfling on both bass and treble sides. The fingerboard rests on an all-mahogany neck with a striking walnut center seam running from the heel to the headstock.

This D-55E has a Antique Burst nitro finish, meticulously hand-sprayed for minimal thickness and optimal resonance that improves with age, this D-55 also offers an LR Baggs pickup system. Each guitar is accompanied by a hand-signed certificate of authenticity and ships in Guild's Premium humidified hardshell case.

Crafted with unparalleled quality and finesse, Guild acoustic steel-string guitars stand as a testament to American craftsmanship and heritage. With roots tracing back to the 1950s, Guild has consistently upheld a reputation for producing instruments of exceptional tone, playability, and durability. Their guitars have become synonymous with the highest standards in the professional guitar community, earning the respect of musicians worldwide.

Renowned for their rich, resonant tones and meticulous construction, Guild guitars have found favor among some of the most iconic names in music. Artists such as Richie Havens, Nick Drake, and Brian May have all chosen Guild as their instrument of choice, demonstrating the brand's versatility and ability to cater to a diverse range of musical styles. From folk to rock, blues to country, Guild guitars have left an indelible mark on the musical landscape.
