The Japanese manufacturer Boss took its time to introduce bass-specific gear in its esteemed Katana series, launched in 2016. The wait has been worthwhile, as the manufacturer recently unveiled two models brimming with technical innovations, offering bassists a vast array of options to craft their unique sound. The smaller model, equipped with a 10-inch woofer and a switchable tweeter, is perfect for sessions, studio work, and shines even on smaller stages. Its integrated headphone jack and adjustable power amp output also make it an ideal practice amp for home use.

The Katana series is renowned for incorporating BOSS's signature effects, and the bass amps are no different. The standalone Compressor/Limiter and Drive sections lay the foundation for the basic sound. The FX1 and FX2 sections then provide a plethora of choices from the BOSS Bass effects library, ranging from classics like Chorus and Flanger to more adventurous options like Octave, Bass Synthesizer, and beyond. Additionally, the FX2 section includes delay and reverb effects.

The innovative blend section, inspired by studio equipment, enables the mixing of effect and dry signals. This dry signal can be further tailored with three individually adjustable settings for an optimal sound connection. A comprehensive 4-band EQ is also at hand, with three selectable application frequencies in the low and high-mid bands, ensuring precise sound shaping. For convenience, users can store and recall their favorite settings in six Tone Setting locations, encompassing preamp type, EQ, blend, and effects, making it a versatile tool for any bassist's arsenal.
