Takeharu Guitars were a product of the Kiso Suzuki Violin company, manufactured between 1973 and 1979. They emerged from a partnership between composer Yamamoto Takeharu and the Kiso Suzuki Violin Company. The extent of Mr. Takeharu's involvement in the guitar design is unclear, as is the reason for the end of this collaboration. However, it is widely recognized that the Takeharu brand is highly regarded by its owners.
The Takeharu brand guitars are identifiable by a label signed with his first name, “Yamamoto”.
Yamamoto Takeharu, born on May 22, 1925, is a guitarist and composer who significantly contributed to the popularization of guitar music in Japan. He was a student of Masao Koga, a renowned Japanese guitar player and composer, and a pioneer of Japanese popular music. In 2006, Mr. Takeharu was honored with the 48th Lifetime Achievement Award by the Japan Music Award organization.
